OUR SERVICES

CONNECTVITY: Somatic. Social. Emotional. Tactile.

Socialization and human are fundamental human needs.  Without them there are documented lasting deleterious effects on our mental and physical health.  We are happiest when we connect with people deeply and authentically.  Our ability to be self-aware, open emotionally and communicate respectfully with others directly correlates with successful relationships and long-lasting positive health outcomes.  We can't forget about touch either.  Touch deprivation, also referred to as "skin hunger" is real and people can suffer immensely without human touch.(Read: Skin Hunger, Touch Starvation, and Hug Deprivation | Psychology Today )

With the help of A FRIEND IN HEALTH's guided somatic, social emotional and tactile (SET) programs your residents will experience a novel approach to meeting people, getting to know residents and developing deeper and more meaningful social connections.

Residential or Institution program offerings:

  • Surround: Emotional Intelligence for Men: An 8-week, repeatable, non-linear program designed to progress a cohort of men together in order to destigmatize vulnerability and strengthen connectivity.

  • Vitamin T for Groups: These 90-minute group sessions can be either men-only or women-only.

  • Vitamin T for Individuals: These 60-minute sessions can be purchased in bulk and offered to residents on a first-come, first-serve basis. These sessions are best for people who struggle with loneliness, isolation, social anxiety or feelings of awkwardness with social situations.

  • Together: A social gathering for those involved in any of the programs.

  • Combat Loneliness and Isolation:  Train your own employees to be Friends.

Meditation and Mindfulness skills are not fads. In fact, hundreds of studies have concluded that being in control of your attention, as meditation and mindfulness assist with, are proven methods of stress and pain reduction depending on the practitioner's devotion to honing their skills.

At AFIH, we believe interpersonal communication and emotional intelligence combined with meditation and mindfulness are the skills that allow one to slow down enough to engage with others more deeply and develop more meaningful relationships.

Part of AFIH program activities revolve around creatively and non-traditionally using meditative and cognitive skill learning in the areas of:

  • Active listening
  • Vagal nerve stimulation
  • Development and management of attention control
  • Response vs. reaction
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Situational awareness
  • Healthy disagreement
  • Empathy
  • Tactile responsivity
  • Effort and reciprocity and more

These activities build a foundation for an individual to understand what their bodies and emotions are telling them and how to respond.   In addition, harness the power of their attention long enough to see others with a focused intensity, without distraction or judgement, or a reaction-minded response.

Your residents will learn how to immerse themselves in the life of another with no expectations. Just care for one another.

  • This may consist of designing, distributing, collecting and analyzing anonymous pre/post mental and social health measurement tools in order to determine value of the program. As well as gather feedback for additional programs or resources needed for your residents.
  • After the initial program and completed analysis and findings, AFIH and the client can then repeat the program for wider exposure to new participants and the continuation of the programs, for returning participants. Or discuss the development of a subsequent custom program that may better suit residents' needs.
